VITAMIN D-3 TO THE RESCUE
With winter now in full swing, Vitamin D-3 deficiencies are greater than usual.  A Vitamin D deficiency is usually  the cause of THE WINTER BLUES -- Depression, Muscle Aches, Fatigue and Lethargy. It takes just a few weeks for our bodies to become deficient in Vitamin D.  Low Vitamin D levels have become the 'norm' year  'round.  A 'normal' level does not indicate a sufficient level or a safe level for optimal health.  Not having rickets, does not ensure sufficient Vitamin D levels for preventing dis-ease.

How is it that most of us are so deficient in Vitamin D as to result in Dis-ease? Vitamin D is really a hormone that our skin converts into Vitamin D-3, when it is exposed to sunshine.  While Vitamin D may not be declared a 'cure' for influenza, it is at least considered a 'major weapon' in the fight. When the sun shines on your skin,  you receive thousands of IU's of Vitamin D, in less than thirty minutes. This is Nature's way of protecting us from Dis-ease - for every age and for every health condition.

Safe sun exposure is not at High Noon, during summer months.  It is generally too risky for possible sunburn, sun damage and heat exhaustion, depending on where on earth one is located.  But, during safe sun hours, sunscreen should not be used for the first ten to fifteen minutes on arms and legs, in order to receive proper sun exposure.

Zinc Oxide is a safe, soothing, healing and natural choice as a sunscreen. Chemical sunscreens are usually toxic and ironically, do not block cancer-causing rays.

Unless one is below the Atlanta, GA lattitude line, studies show that it is not enough to depend on sun rays for adequate Vitamin D.  Medical experts now believe that, in measuring Vitamin D levels at the doctor's office, a safe level of Vitamin D is a minnimum of 60; replacing the prior 30 to 35 level number.

While it is important for everyone to know his Vitamin D level, there is no need to be obsessive or fearful about it, asVitamin D overdose/toxicity is extremely rare.  5,000 IU's per day is GRAS (generally regarded as safe); more is needed for those who are overweight, fighting cancer, chronic dis-ease, pain, cold/flu and for those who do not get at least ten minutes of summer sun per day.
